Bad News.

Well, as you all already know, we've recieved heaps and heaps of fantastic styles, many of which are already recieving rave reviews.

The bad news is that because of the large number of excellent styles, the judging process has been more difficult and taken longer than was originally expected. So we're postponing the announcement until Monday, July 3rd.

We hate making you all wait (it sucks!); but we want all the styles to get a fair chance, and rushing the judges is the last thing we want to do. So we trust you'll all bear with us during these extra few days. Thanks again for your patience!

I've been sitting here hitting "refresh" every few minutes, finally see a new post... and it's this? The postponement couldn't have been announced a week ago, or even a day ago? What a huge let-down.

I'm sorry for letting you down, Dan, and I know Arvind and Elise feel the same way. With Arvind juggling exams, Elise in New Zealand and myself loaded with clients, we really just dropped the ball. We were racing to try to get everything done; when it became apparent that we weren't going to be able to hit the deadline, we should have let the community know then.

I just want to bring up the fact that while it is a disappointment that the winners will not be announced until July 3, I do not think it is fair to loose venom on Jesse, Arvind, and Elise. These three people have been the volunteers that have helped make this contest possible. They are getting no pay for the long hours they have spent working on the contest. Each of them have jobs and lives to lead outside of the blogosphere just as we do. I am truly appreciative of their efforts over the length of the contest and am more than willing to wait until Jully 3 to get the results.

Basically, I am asking that we all give them a break. They truly deserve it.

You know, I actually forgot that they were going to announce the winner's today. I've been s preoccupied because we're opening a new store today.

In any case, the extra week is a little dissapointing, but I want the best to win! =D

I know it must be hard because there are so many supurbe entries.

I'm very dissapointed. I don't blame Jesse, Arvind or Elise, but I need to vent a little so I won't carry this dissapointment forward.

First the deadline was extended which essentially was a slap in the face for those of use who actually took the time to complete ours within the original constraints of the contest. Now the judging is delayed at the last minute meaning those of us who submitted by the original deadline have to wait yet another week to find out the results. I also want to note two things. First, the people listed as having issues are not on the list of judges so why do they affect the judging? Second, exams and trips to New Zealand do not generally pop up out of nowhere and surprise you.

I appreciate all the hard work you guys put into it, and I want you to take the time you need to do it right it's just very dissapointing.

Venting is ok, Tim. I suppose even a little booing is in order.

You're right that some of these things aren't necessarily "pop-ups", but keep in mind we're three volunteers trying to juggle our own schedules, not to mention each others schedules. Often, one person's job is tied in with another person's job, so even though I have time free, I might be at an impasse if Arvind's in an exam or Elise is on a flight.

And let's not blame the judges. They've been great through the whole process. But this judging phase is quite a bit more complicated than just a judge giving a thumbs up or down. There's the whole judging infrastructure that had to be setup, not to mention the multiple elimination rounds (think 146 styles x 5 subpages x 4 possible column layouts) the styles had to go through.

Hope that makes some sense.

I don't want to "pile on", because I really do appreciate how much work it takes to pull something like this off. My 'boooo' was only because I was very excited about seeing the results today. I realize that things happen, and that you're trying to work this in around actual, paying customers. (So are most of the designers!)

However, I *really* agree with Tim on the first deadline extension. Part of the process of design is working within given constraints - both technical and time. Half the entries in the contest were given a free pass on the "time" portion.

A good judgment is the best.
I'll wait for a week without problems.

I honestly thought the results were going to be posted on June 28th, so it's not as big of a shock to me. Still a bit disappointing. I have to agree with Tim on the initial deadline extention, though! I worked very hard to have everything done by May 15th.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but how are we doing? Is Monday a "Go"? (I hope I hope I hope...)

Yes, and June 23rd was June 23rd. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we heard anything today.

I think you're being a little too skeptical.

Either way, i'm sure they'll annouce it once they know who's best. DOn't worry, they'll announce it soon enough

Yes, I was wondering if it's possible to blow up a computer by hitting "refresh" too many times! :)

Seriously, someone ought to make some sort of announcement here. If it's not happening today, let us know.
